Oats and apricots are blood-nourishing. Blackcurrants strengthen the Liver which has an important role in ‘storing’ the Blood. Those who are both blood and yin deficient could swap the blackcurrant jam for raspberry jam, or sprinkle with raspberries as well as apricots (which will also nourish yin). Eating a warm breakfast will also make it easier for the digestive organs to obtain the nourishment from the food.
Jam is pretty high in sugar, but use one with lots of fruity bits in to keep it as healthy as possible.
50g Porridge Oats
1tsp Blackcurrant Jam
2-3 Dried Apricots
Place the oats in a saucepan, add the water and bring to the boil. Simmer for 5 minutes or until the oats are soft, stirring occasionally to prevent the oats from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Pour the porridge into a bowl, stir in the jam and sprinkle the chopped apricots on the top. Jammin’.
